Cricket Teams - National Cricket Teams and Cricket Clubs
Cricket is a team non-contact sport played by hundreds of millions of people around the world. This game is ranked 2nd in the ranking of the best sports. Both men and women play cricket. Oversees all cricket – the International Cricket Council, which consists of 104 member countries. Matches can be held both at the domestic level and at the international championship. In this article, we summarize information about sports cricket teams: their composition, the main tournaments of the clubs, as well as the current world ranking.

Сricket teams – general information
Cricket has been played since the 17th century. The game originated in England. Later, thanks to the British, this sport spread far beyond the borders of their country. Today cricket is the main sport in India, New Zealand, England, South Africa, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Ireland. There are national cricket teams in these and other countries, as well as many cricket clubs.
The first Laws of cricket appeared in 1744 thanks to the English members of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC). Naturally, until today the laws of cricket (you can find out about them on our website) have undergone some changes. Currently, the International Cricket Council, which was formed in 1909, manages cricket. However, the copyright for the Laws remains with the MCC, and only they can change the Laws, although today, this is all done collectively.
According to the Laws, two teams of 11 people play cricket at the professional level. Cricket teams consists of batsmans (the player who hits the ball), bowlers (the player who serves the balls), fielders (members of the team who catch the balls in the field) and wicket-keepers (the fielder who is allowed to wear gloves. He tries to catch the ball right away. while throwing a bowler). Of course, people can play cricket completely differently at the amateur and local levels, but there are mainly 11 people competing in official matches.

A country that is part of the ICC can host domestic cricket competitions as well as field cricket teams in international tournaments. We know that the International Cricket Council is made up of 104 countries. Of these, 12 states have the status of full members of the Council, and 92 countries are associate members. Let’s take a look at the difference.
Сricket teams – international level
Today, there are two main game formats in cricket, which are divided into several types. The 1st format is a first-class and test match that lasts from 3 to 5 days. 2nd format – cricket with limited overs. These games can take place in one day; the duration of the match can vary from 1.5 to 8 hours.
So, only 12 full members of the ICC have the right to play test (first-class) cricket at the international level (learn more about them on other sections of the site). These countries form national cricket teams and put it on the test world championships. In addition, all ICC members at the international level can already present their cricket teams to the 2nd format tournaments. By the way, due to the different types of cricket, the lineups of clubs for the championships can be completely different (one national team can participate in test matches, the other in games with a limited number of overs).

This is how the ranking of the TOP-5 national cricket teams for Septembet 2021, which participate in test matches, looks like:
- New Zealand National Cricket Team.
- India National Cricket Team.
- Australia National Cricket Team.
- England Cricket Team.
- Pakistan National Cricket Team.
In 2017, the cricket teams of Afghanistan and Ireland became the 11th and 12th ICC members to play test cricket today.

As for the format with a limited number of overs, here the rating is divided into One Day International and Twenty20 International (as of September 2021).
Ranking of cricket teams playing one-day cricket (ODI)
- New Zealand National Cricket Team.
- England Cricket Team.
- Australia National Cricket Team.
- India National Cricket Team.
- South Africa National Cricket Team.
Cricket teams in order playing Twenty20 International Cricket
- England Cricket Team.
- India National Cricket Team.
- Pakistan National Cricket Team.
- New Zealand National Cricket Team.
- South Africa National Cricket Team.
Did you know that women’s cricket teams play only limited overs? We think this is correct because test matches need very hardy and strong people because not everyone will be able to play for five days in a row.

Сricket teams – internal level
Each country has its own national cricket championships. The local Cricket Sports Association is responsible for cricket, including cricket teams. ICC’s 12 full member clubs compete in domestic first-class cricket tournaments as well as other limited overs. The remaining 92 countries organize popular 2nd format tournaments.
Today, cricket is developing at lightning speed. More and more types of cricket are emerging, both at the professional and amateur levels. Different cricket teams can participate in different championships. Of course, at any level, the captain is the head of the team. It is on his shoulders the success of the club mainly lies. By the way, one team in different formats may have different captains.
