How many cricket teams are there in Sri Lanka? Surely, when answering this question, you were the first to think of seven franchise teams that take part in the SLPL, but this country is too fond of cricket to be limited to such a small number of players. In fact, there are many more teams in Sri Lanka. They play first-class cricket. We will tell you about one of these teams – the Saracens Sports Club in our article.

Saracens Sports Club: Team Facts & Biggest Achievements

The Saracens Sports Club has existed for many decades. It played and won in the first half of the last century. This is one of the teams that represent the province of Colombo. The Saracens is more of a middling team that does not yet boast an impressive list of victories but is worthy of keeping the bar in its tournaments. We tell you about the team’s achievements in the three most significant tournaments of the country:

  • In the Premier Trophy tournament, the Saracens scored twice: in the last century, in the 1940–41 season, they won the tournament, and later, the Saracens prevailed in Tier B in the 2008–09 season. In the 2019–20 tournament, they played in Tier A in group B and even the Super Eight, where they finished seventh.
  • The Saracens Sports Club finished second in the SLC Twenty20 Tournament in the 2006-07 season. In the 2019-20 tournament, the Saracens Mohomed Dilshad took five wickets on the first day of the tournament. On the third day, Ashen Bandara earned a hundred for the Saracens. In the 2020-21 season, the teams played in Group D and could not reach the quarterfinals.
  • The situation is worse in the Major Clubs Limited Over Tournament: the team has not yet had time to distinguish itself. In the 2020-21 season, the Saracens Sports Club played in Group D and could not advance further.
