Cricket is one of the most popular summer sports in New Zealand. Officially, the New Zealand Cricket appeared in the country in 1894 – this is the main governing body responsible for cricket. The headquarters of the company is in the city of Christchurch (population 390 thousand people). The NZC has been a full member of the International Cricket Council since 1926.

Today, the Sports Council organizes both international competitions and several domestic professional championships. Officially, six popular teams take part in national tournaments. You can find detailed information about each of them on our website. In this article, we will talk about the Northern Districts cricket team.

As stated above, NDCT is a professional cricket club formed from 6 district cricket sports associations:

  1. the Northland Cricket;
  2. the Counties Manukau Cricket;
  3. the Hamilton Cricket;
  4. the Waikato Valley Cricket;
  5. the Bay of Plenty Cricket;
  6. the Poverty Bay Cricket.

Because the team consists of several associations, therefore, it has several places to play. The main home stadium is Seddon Park. However, there are other playgrounds:

  • Bay Oval (Tauranga city, capacity 10,000 people);
  • Cobham Oval (Whangarei city, capacity 5,500 people );
  • Harry Barker Reserve (Gisborne city);
  • Owen Delany Park (Taupo city capacity 15,000 people).
