Chattogram Challengers

Bangladesh cricket is a very fascinating spectacle. There are many teams and professional athletes in the country who show an incredible game. In this article, the story will be about a team called Chattogram Challengers. You will learn basic information about the team and the results of its performances in the Bangladesh Premier League.

Chattogram Challengers: the history of the team from Bangladesh

Let’s start with the fact that the Chattogram franchise itself appeared in 2012, and it is based in the city of the same name – Chattogram. During its existence, the team managed to change its name several times. So, until December 1, 2015, the team was called Chattogram Kings, then – Chattogram Vikings, and since the 2019/2020 season it performs under the modern name – Chattogram Challengers.

The team’s logo is a shield with their name written on it, as well as a batsman and mountains, and an anchor on the right.

How did the team perform in the Bangladesh Premier Cricket League? Let’s briefly go through each season:

  • 2011/2012. The team entered the tournament with a fairly strong squad: such famous cricketers as Mahmudullah Riyad, Dwayne Bravo, Kevon Cooper and Jason Roy played for it. However, the team failed to reach their potential: they were disqualified for rather controversial reasons and they could not compete for victory.
  • 2012/2013. This season was the most successful in the history of the team. In addition to the fact that they managed to keep Mahmudullah Riyad and Jason Roy in their squad, they received reinforcements in the form of such famous players as David Miller and Ryan ten Doeschate. The team managed to reach the final, but it did not work out to win the trophy: Dhaka Gladiators turned out to be stronger.
  • 2015/2016. The team returns to the league, changing its name to Chattogram Vikings. Several players join the team, including Tamim Iqbal, Mohammad Amir and others. However, the season for the Vikings turned out to be unsuccessful: they took the last place in the standings.
  • 2016/2017. Several other athletes join the Vikings Chattogram, among them are Chris Gayle and Shoaib Malik. This season, the team is performing quite well, they even manage to reach the playoffs. However, the team was defeated by Rajshahi Kings, and eventually retained third place.
  • 2018/2019. This season, the team refused to participate, but at the urgent request of the Governing Council, they still agreed. The squad also underwent changes, players such as Cameron Delport, Dasun Shanaka and Najibullah Zadran were signed. At first, Chattogram Vikings performed well, but as the tournament progressed, they weakened. As a result, the team managed to take fourth place in the points table.
  • 2019/2020. Akhtar Group acquires sponsorship rights to the team, which is why the team changes its name to Chattogram Challengers. New players are being signed, including Chris Gayle and Mahmudullah Riyad. The team performs quite well, but still does not take the prize.
  • 2021/2022. After a break due to the pandemic, the Bangladesh Premier League returns. This time, Chattogram Challengers takes third place in the points table.
  • 2022/2023. This season, the Chattogram Challengers team does not demonstrate great success, the team wins only three matches out of ten. Accordingly, the team does not qualify for the playoffs.

As you can see, the Chattogram Challengers team performs with varying success. However, the team does not stand still, improves, corrects its composition. We hope that in the future we will see many more bright games from them.
