Trinbago Knight Riders

The Caribbean Cricket Premier League is a very young tournament that has been running since 2013. However, this does not mean that teams from this league cannot perform beautifully. Despite their youth, the Caribbean cricket clubs are attracting a lot of attention. Among the most famous teams in this region of the planet are the Trinbago Knight Riders. The club was founded in Port of Spain – the capital of Trinidad and Tobago, the southernmost island of the Caribbean. And, accordingly, it represents this region in the Caribbean Premier League. The club is owned by the Indian franchise Kolkata Knight Riders, and the executive directors are Rajeev Singh and Lloyd Rangiah.

The Trinbago Knight Riders is based at Queen’s Park Oval located in Port of Spain. This cricket stadium was founded back in 1896 and has become an arena for many high-profile matches. The site is privately owned by the Queen’s Park Cricket Club and is currently the largest cricket stadium in the West Indies (capacity up to 20,000). It was reconstructed twice, in the 1950s and in 2007, before the World Cup. The repair work was carried out on a large scale, as an earthquake damaged the site. The first ODI match on the pitch was played in March 1983 and at Twenty20 International in 2009.

It is necessary to stop at the Trinbago Knight Riders logo. If you are familiar with the Indian Premier League, then you probably recognized the symbol of the Kolkata Knight Riders club, which is the owner of the Caribbean team, in the team’s coat of arms. The only difference is the color scheme in which the coat of arms is made. In addition to purple and gold, the Trinbago Knight Riders logo features red. The team from India depicts a knight’s helmet and a stylized shield, in which the team’s name is inscribed. The club’s uniforms are red and black, but these colors may change from season to season.

The Trinbago Knight Riders: a brief history of the team and its participation in the tournament

The Trinbago Knight Riders are one of six teams formed to kick off the first season of the Caribbean Premier League in 2013. The band’s original name is the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel. With its first participation in the tournament, this team did not show anything supernatural, finishing in 4th place out of 6. Naturally, the team’s management made changes to the composition and strategy of the team’s work, and in the 2014 season it bore fruit: this time – the third place in the overall standings.

The Trinbago Knight Riders made a furor in 2015. They advanced to the final, where they fought the Barbados Tridents and won by 20 runs.

Also, Red Chillies Entertainment (owns part of the Kolkata Knight Riders franchise in India) acquired a stake in Red Steel in 2005. Accordingly, the company took over the management of the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel cricket club, and as a result, renamed it to our familiar name – the Trinbago Knight Riders.

2016 in the Caribbean Premier League turned out to be unattractive for the team, but 2017 and 2018 were simply colossally successful. The Trinbago Knight Riders reached the final and won (2017 – St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, 2018 – Guyana Amazon Warriors), thus becoming a three-time champion titleholder.

2019 passed without high-profile victories, but a year later, in the 2020 season, the Trinbago Knight Riders again reached the final and beautifully defeated St Lucia Zouks, earning the champion title for the fourth time. Thus, the “Knights” are leaders in the championship in the Caribbean Cricket Premier League.
