Kannur Lokesh Rahul or better known as KL Rahul is among the top Indian cricketers today. At the moment, an experienced 29-year-old cricketer is conquering the heights of the most prestigious league in the world, combining the skills of a batsman with the duties of captain of the Punjab Kings.

Rahul made his debut on the international stage in 2014. The athlete broke into the elite so confidently that he scored the coveted hundred in the second Test match. However, KL became known not only as an excellent player (the first Indian to score a hundred in the ODI debut and the third holder of a hundred in all three formats of cricket), but also a purposeful, strong-willed person who naturally became a star of Indian cricket.

KL Rahul: brief information about the player

KL Rahul was born on April 18, 1992 in an aristocratic Bangalore family. Father K. N. Lokesh is a professor and former director of the National Institute of Technology Karnataka. Rajeshwari’s mother is also a current professor at Mangalore University. In an interview, the athlete’s father admitted that he is an ardent fan of the cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, so he planned to name his offspring like the son of his idol. However, he mistook Rohan for Rahul.

The batsman’s career began after graduating from university, but KL felt the full burden of responsibility for his future during training at the age of 10. Coach Samuel Jayaraj noticed the gifted boy even then and advised him to develop his talent. Rahul plays at the amateur level at Bangalore United Cricket Club two years later. At the age of 18, he enters Jain University to pursue his career in cricket along with studying.

Earlier, the athlete was repeatedly asked why he chose to study at the university, although he could already perform at a professional level. To this, KL Rahul replied that he had coped with both.

Rahul made his debut on the professional stage in the 2010/11 season with the Karnataka club. In the same season, he represented his country at the 2010 Under-19 Cricket World Cup, where he scored a total of 143 points.

The start of his career in the Indian Premier League took place in 2013 for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. However, appearances for the club were limited to only one year. The reason for this was the batsman’s performance: during the 2013/14 season, he scored 1,033 runs, becoming the second most productive player in the league. Competitors immediately appreciated this from the Sunrisers Hyderabad, who offered to rent Rahul for the 2014/15 season. A year later, KL returned to Bangalore.

Two years later, he moved to the Punjab Kings, becoming the club’s captain. However, recently the team has somehow not stuck. Despite all the team’s efforts in 2020, the best batsmen in the person of KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal and even Chris Gayle could not lift the club from the bottom of the standings.
