The ICC Champions Trophy tournament was created in 1998 but was originally called the ICC KnockOut Tournament. It was only in 2002 that it was renamed the championship that we know today. The matches were played at Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka. The format of the tournament is ODI, KnockOut.

- Second Championship – 2000, Kenya.
This year, 11 teams participated in the tests. However, 3 of them did not make it to the quarterfinals.

- Fifth Championship – India, 2006.
10 test teams from the following countries took part in the tournament:

21 ODI, Round-robin and Knockout matches were played in the championship. The finalists were teams from Australia and the West Indies. The Australians have won.
- Sixth Championship – South Africa, 2009.
As you can see, the time interval between the championships has changed. The sixth ICC Champions Trophy was held 3 years later. Initially, it was supposed to take place in Pakistan. However, for security reasons, it was moved to South Africa.
Matches were played at Wanderers Stadium and Centurion Park in Gauteng. The following teams performed:

- Eighth Championship – England and Wales, 2017.
It was assumed that the 7th ICC Champions Trophy in 2013 would be held for the last time and a completely different tournament would be held instead. However, in 2014, this decision was canceled due to the great popularity of the Champions Trophy. Also, finally, we decided on the time interval between the championships – they began to be held every 4 years, and with the number of participating teams: the maximum number is 8.

After playing 15 matches, Pakistan and India were in the final. With the most confident victory, Pakistan won the championship for the first time.
By the way, since 2017, the prize fund has been increased by $ 1.5 million and amounted to $ 4,500,000. The Pakistan national team was able to earn a check in the amount of 2.2 million.
The ninth championship, which was supposed to take place in 2021, was canceled due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, it will be in 2025 in Pakistan. By the way, it is known when the 10th ICC Champions Trophy anniversary will take place. It will be in India in 2029.
