Indian player Washington Sundar was born on October 5, 1999, in Chennai. The rather original name of the athlete became a tribute to his father’s respect for his own patron – P. D. Washington, who sponsored the elder Sundar’s passion for this game. Moreover, Washi has a younger sister, Shailaja, who followed in her brother’s footsteps by becoming a professional cricketer.
He received his education in St. Petersburg. Bede’s Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School with an English bias, after which he began a sports career.
Washington Sundar: home career
Washington made his first-class debut on October 6 at the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy. The Indian athlete decided that he would first make a name for himself in the home team of Tamil Nadu, after which he would go to conquer the central national leagues. A couple of months later, Sundar reached his first hundred in a game against Tripura.
The promising junior was noticed by the breeders of Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS), who subsequently chose him as a replacement for Ravichandran Ashwin. In April 2017, Washi made his debut for RPS in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The young player instantly adapted to the level of the IPL, as evidenced by the player’s title of the match in the meeting with Mumbai Indians at the IPL 2017 qualifying tournament: the cricketer took three wickets for 16 runs.
The Indian’s career was so successful that in the off-season of 2018, he was bought out by the contenders for the title of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and in October of the same year, he joined the reserve team of the Indian national team for the Deodhar Trophy 2018-19.
Washington Sundar: international career
Since November 2017, Washington has been a member of the Indian T20I team. Unfortunately, his debut against Sri Lanka was unsuccessful. However, a month later, the player replaced the injured Kedar Jadhav in ODI matches. Sundar has a chance to get even with the Sri Lanka national team; however, now in the ODI format. Washington knocked out his first wicket on Lahiru Thirimanne so cleanly that experts immediately noted the quality of his game.
In December of the same year, he made his first appearance in T20I. Interestingly, once again, the Sri Lankan national team became the opponent of India.
