Quetta Gladiators

In the world of cricket, the Pakistan Super League takes pride of place. Despite being created recently, bright teams have already appeared in this tournament, showing a beautiful and interesting game. One of them is the Quetta Gladiators. In addition to its main name, the team is known among fans under the pseudonyms Shan-e-Pakistan and Purple Force. The club represents in the Pakistan Super League the city of Quetta, the capital of Baluchistan, Pakistan. The collective is owned by Nadim Omar, a well-known Pakistani businessman.

The team is based at the Bugti Stadium (formerly called Racecourse Ground), located in Quetta. The place is quite old. The first match on it was registered on October 29, 1954. Of course, the Bugti has been repaired and restored more than once over the entire period of its existence, but there have been no fundamental changes there. The stadium has a capacity of 17,000 spectators. Besides the Quetta Gladiators, the Bugti Stadium is the home ground for the Balochistan cricket team.

Of course, one cannot pass by the colorful and very attractive Quetta Gladiators logo. The team’s coat of arms depicts an ancient Roman helmet worn by gladiators. This directly references the team’s name and shows their spirit and determination, which was characteristic of participants in gladiatorial tournaments. Also, bats are depicted there along with this helmet, and the club’s name is on a stylized shield.

Quetta Gladiators’ signature colors are purple and gold. Both the logo and the uniform of the team are made in this color scheme.

We, of course, became interested in how the site of this team looks like. We found the link using a search engine, went to it, but we were in for a strange surprise: the site greeted its new visitors with a large inscription “Coming soon”, which means that it is under development or reconstruction. Apart from this lettering and the team logo, there is no further information available.

Since the Quetta Gladiators website is not yet available, you can only follow the club’s news through its social networks pages. Fortunately, they are on all popular platforms, including Instagram (over 415 thousand subscribers), Twitter (over 1.1 million subscribers) and Facebook (over 1.3 million subscribers). All the latest and operational news of the team is published there. In addition, the guys have a YouTube channel with over 125 thousand subscribers. It publishes interviews and comments from the Quetta Gladiators members and various interesting moments from the games.

Quetta Gladiators: History and Main Events

The reason for the creation of the Quetta Gladiators was the Pakistan Super League: the newly-fledged tournament required the emergence of new teams, among which there were “gladiators”. The franchise was sold for US $ 11 million.

The first season of the Pakistan Super League for the Quetta Gladiators started off great: they won two comfortable victories over the Islamabad United and the Karachi Kings, and then, in a more difficult game, defeated Peshawar Zalmi. The series of victories was interrupted by the Lahore Qalandars team, but the further play of the “gladiators” still allowed the guys to break out in the playoffs and the final of the season. True, they did not succeed in taking the champion title: the Islamabad United defeated the athletes.

The 2017 season also began successfully for the “gladiators”: the guys were able to defeat the Lahore Qalandars and then -the Karachi Kings. However, then the series of victories was interrupted with the help of the Islamabad United club, which did not prevent the Quetta Gladiators from winning a few more matches and reaching the final, where they lost again, but this time to the Peshawar Zalmi.

2018 turned out to be a very strange year for the club: the guys kept a high level of play and even made it to the playoffs, but they did not manage to get to the final. But in 2019, the “gladiators” pulled themselves together and not only made it to the final but were also able to take the champion title for the first time in their history, beating the Peshawar Zalmi.

After the championship, there were no significant events in the life of the team. The guys play in the Pakistan Super League, but they have not managed to get to the final again either in 2020 or in 2021.

The goal of any cricket team is to win tournaments. To do this, you have to constantly carry out various reforms in the composition of the club. The Gladiators are no exception. The team’s management periodically changes players to achieve the perfect balance. At the time of this writing in 2021, the composition of the “gladiators” is as follows:
