Kane Richardson – Professional Australian Bowler

Born in a tiny town deep in the Australian outback and raised in early childhood in a converted school bus, Kane Richardson – one of Australia’s best T20 bowlers – has written his name into the history of the nation’s sport for good. Kane Richardson: Biography and Sporting Career

Kane Richardson, full name Kane William Richardson, was born in the small provincial town of Eudunda, located in the agricultural Mid North region of South Australia. When Kane was around seven years old, his parents turned an old school bus into a mobile home. For several years, the family of six travelled around remote parts of Western Australia and the Northern Territory before finally settling down in Darwin.

Progressing quickly through the Darwin and District Cricket Association, he represented the Northern Territory at the junior level and made a real splash at the national under-15 championships, where his raw pace immediately caught the eye of scouts.

In 2009, the talented bowler was called up to the national U19 side for a series of warm-up matches ahead of the 2010 World Cup. On January 27, 2026, Kane Richardson announced his retirement from professional sport, first sharing the news on Instagram and then confirming it with an official statement through the Australian Cricketers’ Association. The 34-year-old bowler called time on his career because of accumulated injuries and an age that, for a professional athlete, was already fairly advanced. The decision was measured and made without too much drama: according to Richardson, he felt he had squeezed absolutely everything out of himself and had picked the perfect moment to walk away.
