Fortune Barishal: the history of the creation of the team
In 2012, the Bangladesh Cricket Board established the Bangladesh Premier League cricket tournament. It had to be held according to the rules of Twenty20. 6 teams took part in the first tournament. In the same year, the Fortune Barishal team was created, although at that time it was originally called Barisal Burners.
By the way, Burners took first place in that year’s drawing. But in general, this is not surprising because then the team acquired Chris Gayle, which cost 551,000 US dollars. But it was only available for 5 games. Nevertheless, in such a short period of time, he was able to score Two centuries and had the highest average of 97.00. Besides Gayle, there were other equally significant players in the team: Ahmed Shehzad, Brad Hodge, Shahriar Nafees, Mominul Haque, Al Amin, Suhrawadi Shuvo, Phil Mustard and Pakistan’s Yasir Arafat, Shane Harwood.
In 2013, Barisal Burners finished in the Bangladesh Premier League in the top three worst teams, which did not allow them to reach the playoffs. Burners took 6th place out of 7 possible. In the same year, Chris Gayle, who signed a contract with Dhaka Gladiators, left the line-up.
In 2015, Barisal Burners were renamed Barisal Bulls. This is due to the change of the team owner. In the same season, Chris Gayle returned to the lineup again, but this time he was paid less – 350,000 USD. The club also included Brendan Taylor, Evin Lewis and Kevon Cooper, Mohammad Sami and Imad Wasim, Mahmudullah Riyad, Sabbir Rahman, Shahriar Nafees, Sohag Gazi, Al-Amin Hossain and Taijul Islam. Thanks to well-chosen players, Barisal Bulls were able to reach the final, but lost to Comilla Victorians with a difference of 3 wickets.
In the 2016/2017 Bangladesh Premier League season, Mushfiqur Rahim became the captain of the Barisal Bulls. Dawid Malan, Rumman Raees, Thisara Perera, Shahriar Nafees, Abu Hider also signed contracts with the team. The season turned out to be a failure and Barisal Bulls finished last.
Then the team began to have financial difficulties and was excluded from the BPL. The club returned back to the Bangladesh Premier League in 2021 under the name Fortune Barishal in honor of the owner – Fortune Group.

The head coach of Fortune Barishal is Nazmul Abedin Fahim. The team captain is Shakib Al Hasan.
