Rough

Rough is a term used in cricket to describe the “worn out” section of the field due to bowler tracks.

Each bowler needs a certain area to run, which over time “clears” the grass, becoming rough. Spin bowlers use this area when needed to take advantage of the extra spin.

The batsman must be very careful to the rough as it can cause the ball to bounce unexpectedly, which can make it difficult to hit or even bring to an out.
