On striker

In any cricket match, there are two batsmen on the pitch from the batting team. During an innings, the one who simply protects the wicket is called a non-striker, and a batsman who protects the wicket and simultaneously hits balls – an on striker. So the phrase on-striker means exactly the moment when a player with a bat is faced with the bowler’s serves.
