North West Warriors – participation in a first-class tournament
The International Cricket Council is an international sports company leading and promoting cricket worldwide since 1909. Today the Council consists of 104 members: 12 countries are full members, and 92 are associate members of the ICC.
Ireland is recognized as one of the 12 countries with full-fledged status. The Irish Cricket Union (Cricket Ireland) is an internal sports organization responsible for cricket in the country. It was formed in 1923. ICU has joined the International Cricket Council as an associate member since 1993. Another 24 years later, Ireland, together with Afghanistan, received the status of a full member of the ICC. It means that from that moment on, countries have the right to organize domestic first-class tournaments and field the national team in international test matches.
The Irish Cricket Union consists of 5 provincial unions, one of which is the North West of Ireland Cricket Union (NWICU).
NWICU was formed in 1890 under the 1st name County Derry Cricket Union. Today, the local cricket union hosts six provincial championships. The company is also responsible for the North West Warriors professional club.
The team debuted at one of the 3 Inter-Provincial Championship tournaments on May 14, 2013 (the championship received its first-class status in 2017). Three clubs are participating in the competition. Unfortunately, the NW Warriors did not show a successful result in the 1st season. The team with 22 points (1st place – 63 points) took the last place.
The club finished the championship four times in 3rd place, two times in 2nd place and only once became its champion. It happened in 2018:
- 1st match against the Leinster Lightning ended in a draw;
- 2nd match with the LL team ended in a draw;
- 3rd match the club beat the Northern Knights away;
- The team won the 4th match against the NS at home.
At the end of the season, Ulster players won the IP Championship with 64 points.
The club finished last season in the last place. Season 2020, 2021 was not held for several reasons.

Season 1 ran from May 6 to September 21. The NW Warriors were only able to win one game and were in the last place in the championship. The team did not win championship titles at this tournament. The best results of the IP Cup are considered to be the 2nd places in the seasons 2017 and 2018, and 2021.
The Inter-Provincial Trophy is the 3rd Irish domestic championship in which the team from the province of Ulster has been participating since 2013. Matches in this tournament are played in Twenty20 status. It means that one game consists of 2 innings, each of which contains 20 overs.
