Ian Chappell has ended his career as a commentator
Australian cricket ex-captain Ian Chappell has ended his career as a commentator. The 78-year-old has been reviewing cricket for 45 years. Ian became famous for his piercing look at the game: Chappell saw and understood more than everyone else. But any story ends sometime — he announced that he decided to “close the curtain”.
“I recall the day when I realized that my career as a player was coming to an end. On the day of the game, I looked at my watch, and then I thought it was time to finish. The same thing happens nowadays. At one point, I clearly realized that I had given the world everything I could,” Chappell said.
Recall that Chappell played 70 test matches for the Australia national club during his playing career, in 30 of which Ian was the leader.
After completing his professional job, Yan took a short break and became a sports commentator. Ian spent the last years of his career as an expert in the same studio with Richie Benaud, Bill Lowry and Tony Greig.
