Delivery in cricket

In cricket, the game begins with a toss of the ball, which the bowler directs towards the batsman. This process is called delivery in cricket. When serving, the thrower may add extra spin to the ball to make it difficult for an opponent to hit. Bowlers are divided into several classifications, from spin bowlers to fast bowlers. Depending on the style of play, they send the ball either powerfully or with a lot of spins.

Delivery in Cricket: Variations

Each over consists of six legal deliveries, after which a different bowler takes over from the opposite end. A bowler cannot bowl two consecutive overs.

  • Bowlers use different grips and wrist positions to produce variations such as yorkers, bouncers, off-spin, leg-spin, googlies, and doosras.
  • Spin bowlers are generally categorized into off-spinners, who turn the ball into a right-handed batsman, and leg-spinners, who turn it away.
  • Fast bowlers may use cutters, reverse swing, and slower balls to deceive the batsman.
