Khawar Ali
Khawar Ali – Omani all-rounder
Khawar Ali was born on December 20, 1985, in Pakistan. Since 2011, he has been playing for the national team of Oman.
Khawar Ali: international career
It is worth noting that the national team of Oman has reached the professional level relatively recently. The team played its first T20 matches in 2002 and, at first, was content with participating in the ACC Trophy and the ACC T20 Cup. Nevertheless, the progress of the Omanis was so rapid that in 2015 they received an invitation to the T20I. Not least, this was made possible thanks to such players as Khawar Ali (most of the national team participants are natives of India and Pakistan, while the share of Arabs is slightly less than 15 percent).
Ali took part in the ICC World Twenty20 qualification in July 2015. A year and a half later, he made his List A debut in a three-match series against the United Arab Emirates. Based on the results of the ICC World Cricket League tournament (fourth division), he was awarded the title of the best player of the series.
In early 2018, Khawar was included in the Oman national team’s bid to participate in the ICC World Cricket League (Second Division). In August of the same season, he was appointed vice-captain of the national team at the Asian Cup qualification, and in October, he was offered the same post, this time in the ICC World Cricket League (Third Division). At the end of the year, Ali received an invitation to the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup.
In the spring of 2019, Khawar took part in a historical event. After the ICC World Cricket League (Second Division) tournament, where the Oman national team entered the top four, its status was upgraded to ODI. Thus, in April 2019, Ali entered the field for the first time in the framework of competitions of the corresponding category in a national team T-shirt.
The stable game of the Pakistani all-rounder made his status in the national team virtually unshakable. In the autumn of 2019, Ali was included in the ICC T20 World Cup qualification application. On October 9, in a match against the Netherlands, he recorded a hat-trick, becoming the ninth cricketer in history to register such an achievement. Interestingly, before Khawar, no bowler representing the national team without full test status managed to reach this bar.
Despite a number of organizational difficulties associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, Khawar Ali had a brilliant 2020 season, completing almost 500 runs and destroying 15 wickets. As a result, he received the main award in the nomination “Player of the Year” from Oman Cricket.
