Flamingo shot
A flamingo shot is a special, short hit with a bat on the ball. With such a pitch, the batsman performs the following actions:
- Goes the protected area;
- The beginning of the strike is when the bat is lowered down at the level of the wicket (approximately in the middle). Then, with a sharp movement, the player hits the ball and accompanies the bat by inertia upwards;
- The end of the strike – the ball is hit, the bat is at the top, almost above the head.
Why flamingo shot? Because the movement of the bat is very similar to the flamingo bird. Imagine that the ball is bounced at the body level, and then the bat rises sharply up in the direction of the flexible neck of the noble bird.
Such strikes must be applied when the bowler serves balls on the off-side. That is, if you look through the eyes of a player with a bat – it will be the side of the right shoulder. Officially, it is believed that a former professional cricketer (and now a sports commentator), Kevin Pietersen is the first to hit balls in the flamingo shot style. Other famous cricketers have also played and are playing in this vein: former English player James Taylor and New Zealander Trent Boult.
