Flamingo shot

A flamingo shot is a special, short hit with a bat on the ball.

Flamingo Shot: Details

With such a pitch, the batsman performs the following actions:

  1. Goes the protected area;
  2. The beginning of the strike is when the bat is lowered down at the level of the wicket (approximately in the middle). Then, with a sharp movement, the player hits the ball and accompanies the bat by inertia upwards;
  3. The end of the strike – the ball is hit, the bat is at the top, almost above the head.

What is the purpose of the flamingo shot? Because the movement of the bat is very similar to the flamingo bird. Imagine that the ball is thrown at the level of the body, and then the bat suddenly soars to a great height in the direction of the flexible neck of the magnificent bird.

These kinds of strikes are required to be used if the bowler delivers balls that are on the off-side. That is, if you look through the eyes of a player with a bat – it will be the side of the right shoulder. According to the official record, Kevin Pietersen, a former professional cricketer who is now a sports commentator, is the person who is credited with being the first person to hit balls using the flamingo shot style. A number of other well-known cricket players, like the former English star James Taylor and the New Zealander Trent Boult, have previously played and are still playing in this manner.
