Blocker
We continue to get acquainted with the current terms in cricket. There is a biffer in this sport. This is a term that refers to powerful players with a quick throw. A blocker is a player with an opposite throw.
Blocker: the first meaning
Until the middle of the 20th century, there was a division of athletes into amateurs and professionals in cricket. Most often, professionals turned out to be blockers and amateurs – biffers. Professionals did not strive to earn runs after each hit, unlike amateurs. Current blockers are highlighted by low strike rates. This allows them to restrain the pressure of bowlers, which is especially appreciated in short game formats.
