Pursuit is a cricket term describing the action/task of the second numbered team to achieve enough points to end the match in their favor.

In this case, we are talking about the fourth innings of first-class matches and Test meetings (unlimited overs) and the last stages of the game in the framework of ODI matches (limited-overs). A full synonym for pursuit is run chase.
