Come to the Crease

When playing cricket, creases are areas that are created on both sides of a pitch. These creases are then used to put three stumps (three stumps are considered to be one wicket). It is standard practice for match officials to use the term “Come to the Crease” in order to encourage the batsman to get himself to the area and be prepared for another stroke. You may learn more about what crises are by reading another article that has been written and posted on our dedicated sports page.

Come to the Crease: Main Creases

In cricket, creases are marked lines on the pitch used to define specific areas for play. There are four main creases:

  • Bowling crease: where the stumps are placed.
  • Popping crease: used to judge run-outs and no-balls.
  • Return creases: define the bowler’s delivery area.
