The long-awaited white-ball series between Bangladesh and India has once again been thrown into doubt. However, the two national cricket boards are still holding talks over the BCB BCCI India Series and looking for a way to make the tour happen, according to Tamim Iqbal.
BCB BCCI India Series Pushed Back to a Later Date
The situation surrounding the three T20Is and three ODIs between India and Bangladesh has become almost absurd. The neighbouring countries have been unable to agree on the arrangements for the bilateral cricket series for quite some time. Politics is not the only reason why the tour keeps falling through, either.
The idea of bringing the two national teams together outside major international tournaments has been on the table for a long time, but something has always come up and forced the series to be postponed. It finally looked as though the matches would take place in September. However, Bangladesh Cricket Board President Tamim Iqbal has now confirmed that the BCB BCCI India Series has once again been pushed back indefinitely, as India is due to face Afghanistan that month.
Despite the repeated delays, Iqbal stressed that the series has not been called off. He remains hopeful that Bangladesh will eventually get the chance to host India and that the two teams will finally meet on the field. India appears to be just as keen to make the tour happen, so cricket fans may still get to see the two sides battle it out in the foreseeable future.
“Both boards genuinely want this series to go ahead. The BCB and BCCI are currently working together, reviewing different options and looking for available windows in the calendar so that we can agree on new dates for the tour. We have a rough date in mind, and we are now trying to work out whether we can get everything ready in time,” Iqbal said.
The BCB president also added that he would not even be discussing a possible rescheduling if he felt that India had no interest in taking part in the series. According to him, however, the BCCI’s intentions remain positive. The two boards are in regular contact with each other.
There is still a chance that the boards will finally manage to find an open window in their packed calendars and that the broader situation will allow the six-match tour, split across two white-ball formats, to go ahead.
What Are the Issues Surrounding the BCB BCCI India Series?
The political situation in Bangladesh became the catalyst for the national team’s withdrawal from the 2026 T20 World Cup, which was held in India and Sri Lanka. Following the overthrow of Sheikh Hasina and her party in Bangladesh, diplomatic relations between the two neighbouring countries deteriorated, and the fallout soon spilled over into cricket.
The tensions even led to a confrontation between the BCB and BCCI. Bangladesh ultimately refused to travel to India for their World Cup fixtures, citing security concerns.
Tamim Iqbal has now admitted that the BCB could have handled certain aspects of the situation better.
“Everyone was disappointed by what happened to Mustafizur Rahman,” Iqbal said, referring to the Bangladesh cricketer being released from his IPL team as tensions between the countries escalated. “I believe what they did was wrong, and I still stand by that view. However, we were heading into a World Cup, and sometimes sport has to remain sport.”
The easing of tensions between the two cricket boards is already becoming noticeable. Holding the BCB BCCI India Series could help the sides finally put the remaining disagreements behind them. All that is left is to hope that, if the boards manage to agree on new dates, those dates will be final with no more cancellations or postponements.
