Zimbabwe Women Squad
Zimbabwe have named their women’s squad for the upcoming series against West Indies, which gets underway on 24 September. There are a few changes from their previous outing, but Josephine Nkomo will remain captain as the hosts prepare for an important series on home soil.
What Changes Have Been Made to the Zimbabwe Women Squad Ahead of the Home ODI and T20I Series?
Zimbabwe Women have a busy few weeks ahead, with six white-ball matches against West Indies on the schedule. The teams will first contest three ODIs before switching to the 20-over format for three more matches in early October. With all six games taking place in Zimbabwe, the hosts will be looking to deliver competitive performances at the very least against a formidable opponent. That has also given Zimbabwe’s selectors plenty to think about as they put together a squad capable of making the most of the opportunity. There have been some changes to the Zimbabwe women’s squad, but the leadership remains unchanged: Josephine Nkomo will continue to captain the side.
The selectors have named 16 players for Zimbabwe’s upcoming matches against West Indies, with almost all of them selected for both formats. Nkomo retains the captaincy, while recently appointed head coach Mark Coles will continue to oversee the team.
Most of the players who featured in Zimbabwe’s recent T20I series against South Africa have retained their places. Experienced campaigners Nomvelo Sibanda, who serves as vice-captain, Modester Mupachikwa, Sharne Mayers and Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano remain at the heart of the side alongside Josephine Nkomo. The full Zimbabwe women’s squad is listed below.

| 15 | Kudzai Chigora (ODIs only) |

Loreen Tshuma is among those who will miss the upcoming matches, with injury keeping her on the sidelines. Lorraine Pemhiwa and Lindokuhle Mabhera have been left out of the squad, with Chiedza Dhururu and Olinder Chare coming in.
Two players have been selected specifically for individual formats. Kudzai Chigora will feature only in the ODIs, with her involvement in the series ending after the 50-over leg. Francisca Chipare will take her place in the squad for the T20Is. Those are the changes to Zimbabwe’s squad ahead of the meeting between the two sides.

New Challenges for the Zimbabwe Women Squad
With the South Africa series ending on 19 September and the opening match against the West Indies scheduled for 24 September, Zimbabwe have little time to catch their breath. On the other hand, a quick return to action could help the players put their 5-0 series defeat to South Africa behind them and turn their attention to their next opponents. The West Indies sit below South Africa in the ICC rankings, but that hardly makes Zimbabwe’s task an easy one. Another demanding series awaits the home side.
The ODI and T20I legs will be played at different venues. Harare Sports Club will host the 50-over matches, while Takashinga Cricket Club will stage the 20-over games.
Zimbabwe vs West Indies Match Schedule
| Match | Date |
| ODI 1 | September 24 |
| ODI 2 | September 27 |
| ODI 3 | September 30 |
| T20I 1 | October 3 |
| T20I 2 | October 5 |
| T20I 3 | October 7 |
A strong showing in this series could help Zimbabwe climb the ICC rankings. They currently sit 14th out of 16 teams in the women’s ODI rankings, while their position in the T20I standings offers little more encouragement, with the side down in 16th place. The upcoming matches will be far from straightforward, but winning at least one of the two series would give Zimbabwe a memorable success in front of their home crowd.
